Thanksgiving Holiday Office Hours

During this time of Thanksgiving, the staff and board of Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama are most thankful for you – our Girl Scouts, their parents and our dedicated Girl Scout volunteers.  Without the dedication of our almost 4,000 strong volunteer corps, Girl Scouts would not happen in north central Alabama.  From their efforts, over 14,000 girls had the opportunity to grow their Courage, Confidence and Character and make the world a better place.

In observance of the season, the council service centers, shops and camps will close on Wednesday, November 26 at noon. Enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday!

Jemison Student Earns Silver Award by Helping Ronald McDonald House

Kasey, a 9th grader at Jemison High School and member of Girl Scout Troop 340, recently earned her Girl Scout Silver Award. Her project “Pop Tops” for Ronald McDonald House demonstrates that everyone can make a positive environmental impact.

Kasey and her group of volunteers took on the issue of recycling, with purpose of showing that everyone in the community can help, even in small ways. Teens at Kasey’s school and church were challenged to save all of the pop tops from their soda cans over the course of several months. The effort showed how a small gesture could gather over 60 pounds of pop tops, which could then be recycled. All proceeds benefitted the Ronald McDonald House. The program was deemed successful. Kasey helps her community continue to collect pop tops and donates them to the Ronald McDonald House.

The Girl Scout Silver Award is the highest award a Girl Scout Cadette can earn. This award symbolizes a Girl Scout Cadette's accomplishments in Girl Scouting and community activities as she matures and works to better her life and the lives of others.
