Samantha Presson Earns Gold Award

Samantha Presson
Samantha Presson
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.March 17, 2015–Samantha Presson, a 12th Grader at Oxford High School, recently earned the Girl Scout Gold Award. Samantha earned her Gold Award for her project, “Proactive and Sustainable Leadership”. Her project focused on Altar Servers at the Sacred Heart Church, and she addressed this challenge in the form of a work day. Samantha renovated  the server room, developed and implemented a food drive. Her project will be sustainable because she plans to  assist with yearly Altar Server training and weekly Mass leadership. The most successful part of the project was the renovation. It efficiently incorporated many skill sets of numerous volunteers. The project allowed many people to work and connect. It enhanced Ms. Presson’s leadership skills: public speaking, time management, communication and perseverance.

“In many cases, if someone steps up to lead a cause, that is all that is needed to get people to follow. The older people in our church were so willing to help someone… who is interested in supporting their church and local community by simply wanting to make a difference.”, Presson reported.

“By earning the Girl Scout Gold Award,” said Mary Charles, interim chief executive officer of the Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama, “Samantha Presson has become a community leader. Her accomplishments reflect leadership and citizenship skills that set her apart.”

The girl who goes for the Gold embraces challenges, achieves excellence, and works diligently to make the world a better place, in her own unique way. Her leadership, vision, and boundless energy is an inspiration to all Girl Scouts. Each girl earning her Gold Award demonstrates excellence through a leadership project totaling more than 65 hours. Girls who earn their Gold Award are also recognized by the President of the United States, the U.S. Congress, the U.S. Armed Services, state legislatures, colleges and universities for admission and scholarship opportunities, and the American Legion. Some universities and colleges offer scholarships unique to Gold Award recipients, and girls who enlist in the U.S. Armed Forces may receive advanced rank in recognition of their achievements.

About Girl Scout Gold Award
The Gold Award represents the highest achievement in Girl Scouting; it recognizes girls in grades 9 through 12 who demonstrate extraordinary leadership through sustainable and measurable Take Action projects.
