2014 North Alabama Women of Distinction to be Recognized

The Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama (GSNCA) will recognize 4 outstanding women during an awards luncheon on Friday, August 22, 2014, from 11:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m. at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville. This event celebrates extraordinary women from North Alabama.

The Women of Distinction program pays tribute to women who have made special contributions to their community through civic, academic and/or professional involvement.

 The 2014 North Women of Distinction Honorees are:

 
  Clare Grisham of Athens, trustee, Huntsville Symphony Orchestra

 
     Lindsay Rice of Hampton Cove, board member, Junior League of Huntsville
 

 
Louise Heidish of Huntsville, retiree, Huntsville Department of Transportation

 
 
    Cheryl Matthews of Hampton Cove, board member, Women’s Guild of the Huntsville Museum of Art

One honoree will receive the 2014 Christine Richard Lifetime Achievement Award. This award honors the memory of a beloved community leader whose contributions had far-reaching impact in the North Alabama area.

Violet Edwards, former news anchor for WAAY-TV and former Girl Scouts board member, will serve as this year’s mistress of ceremonies.

 Proceeds from the North Alabama Women of Distinction Luncheon provide direct support to Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama, which serves more than 15,000 girls in 36 counties. Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Alabama will serve as the presenting sponor. As of August 14, 2014, sponsors include Cook’s Pest Control, ADTRAN Inc., the Parker Griffith Foundation and Redstone Federal Credit Union.
