Melva
Tate, interim CEO of the Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama, will wrap-up her
contract with the organization effective August 31, 2014. Tate’s consulting
firm, Tate & Associates, LLC, partnered with GSNCA in late February to
provide executive management and CEO search support.
“We
are saddened to see Melva leave,” said Sarah Edwards, GSNCA board president.
“She has been instrumental in helping us finalize the goals and objectives for
our new strategic plan, has motivated our staff and has implemented a number of
systems and processes that have helped to move our council forward. Although other contractual obligations
prevent Melva from extending her time as our interim CEO, I am thrilled that
she has decided to continue to work with our search committee to finalize the
hiring of our permanent CEO.”
Girl
Scouts of the USA has provided GSNCA with an interim CEO until the search is
completed and an offer is made to a permanent CEO. GSNCA is excited to welcome
Sherry Sybesma as the new interim CEO.
Sybesma
is a nonprofit consultant who has experience working with the arts, senior
citizens, people with disabilities and youth programs. She has served as a part
of the senior leadership staff in three Girl Scout councils and has consulted
in almost every Girl Scout council in the United States. Sybesma has varied
experience in the computer industry, including management training from
companies like IBM, Apple, AT&T and Xerox. When she was named senior vice
president of ABC Bakers, she became the first woman to be in charge of a Girl
Scout cookie supplier.
“We
are pleased to have Sherry bring her expertise to GSNCA,” said Edwards. “Her
wealth of experiences in Girl Scouting should add an immediate impact to our
staff and membership. We are also happy
to have additional consulting support from GSUSA as we work towards the goals
and objectives of our strategic plan.”
